Arsenal vs Chelsea Preview: Perfect Records Collide at the Emirates

Four teams still have a perfect record after two rounds of the new Premier League season. Two of them meet on Sunday evening in north London. Arsenal have not conceded a goal all season; Chelsea have scored more than anyone. The first London derby of 2026/27 doubles as the first real examination of both.

4. Palmer's half-century, Martínez's return

Cole Palmer sits on 49 Premier League goals for Chelsea and could reach fifty in his ninety-ninth appearance for the club — a landmark goal at the Emirates would be some way to announce Alonso's new era. At the other end, Emiliano Martínez returns to the stadium where he made his name, now in Chelsea colours and expecting a frosty reception, with his shot-stopping likely to be the busier of the two goalkeepers on the day's evidence.

Predicted Lineups

Key Battle: Saka vs Hato

Strip the derby noise away and this is the matchup that decides the afternoon. Saka's cut inside onto his left foot has beaten better resourced defences than Chelsea's current back three, and Calafiori's overlaps create the low crosses that produced the Villa winner. Chelsea's answer is likely to be Hato's aggression plus a tucked-in Lacroix — but every time the visitors' wing-backs push up, the space behind them is exactly where Ødegaard and Saka live. If Chelsea double-team Saka successfully, the release valve is Gabriel on set pieces; if they don't, the league's best attack meets its leakiest defence with predictable results.

The counter-punch runs through Palmer drifting into the right half-space against Rice's replacement zone. Chelsea have scored first in both league games this season and have seen over 2.5 goals in each of their last four league matches.
